Complex, space restricted scheme delivered on schedule by Sigmat team. Sigmat have completed work on East Street, Reading. The 5-storey student accommodation building is located at the end of East Street. Sigmat were appointed by national contractor VINCI Construction UK to deliver the podium transfer structure basement and first floor, and four levels of Sigmat Light Gauge Steel Frames with a terrace at level four.
East Street in Reading became home to students in September 2020, offering 135 en-suite rooms, just a five-minute walk from the University’s London Road campus.
Comprising 1,492 linear metres of Sigmat panels and 18 flights of stairs, the project also included lifting 135 bathroom pods and 145 plasterboard packs.
Steve Blows, Contracts Manager at Sigmat commented on the success of the project: “This student accommodation project in Reading demonstrated how light gauge steel framing offers a superior advantage when complexity and space restriction present a significant obstacle in the scheme. Achieving a short build programme and reducing on-site build costs shows why the industry is starting to embrace MMC, and in particular LGSF.”
On behalf of VINCI Construction UK I would like to thank the Sigmat team for a tremendous effort in the build and ensuring the development would be available for the first intake of students on the 19th September! Taking advantage of the Sigmat system allowed us to complete the project on time.
